Nothing short of a good goose gun barrel... but is it really needed anymore? :D
Nowadays a 28" barrel is preferred and chambered for 3 1/2" mags for more steel shot and power..
the days of lead shot are gone and what these longer barrels used before.
And a note on it is that the 3 1/2" chambers can shoot the 2 3/4" & 3" shells also, so you are ready for any situation.
But did EW think of that?
My guess is NO.
No, because they know that 16 gauge never even had 3 inch chambers. ;)
That is why I wrote "Nowadays"........the second line,.. first word..... :)
Most external hammer SXS shotguns were made to shoot Blackpowder paper shells, in the late 1800's thru very early 1900's.
And the 1st hammerless SXS shotguns were made in the early 1900's also that shot smokeless (modern) powder paper shells.
The shell lengths came in 2 9/16" & 2 5/8".
I've owned a few of both.

Magnum shells or a longer range Turkey load are needed for all of the shotguns, maybe even as a premium purchase, with both EMS$ and GMS$.
