Game locking up

Since the last update adding pre selected loadouts my game has been locking up.

Game loads as normal, I load my firearms and xbow, all going normal. At that point if I hit "I" to go to inventory i get a blank gray screen and game is locked up. If I hit "m" and go to map view the map loads but locks up and I cannot exit. If I hit "esc" to go to options that screen loads but then it is locked up (frozen) and I cannot select anything like options, resume, etc.

If i manage to get to my task manager it shows the game as "not responding". Sometime I cannot even alt tab out to get to the task manager.

Now for the interesting part. This is all happening in single play, but the game seems to be running fine in multiplay. But, I rarely if ever play multiplayer so it was by accident thai I even discovered that in an mp session things are working.

I run the game through Steam
