Need Help Understanding The Tracking System

Post by InvisibleFlame9 »

Is it just me, a bug, or deer with super powers. Yesterday I shot 4 bucks at Redfeather after many hours of gameplay. It was fun and also very frustrating that I lost 2 of those bucks. In the cases that I lost the bucks I lost the trail of tracks. They seemed to either just end without a next track...no body....or dissappear amongst other roaming animals.

Is there bug with this? I need some clarity on how the tracking works. Is there a tutorial or more information that could help me understand 'tracking' in more detail in the game? Why does it go from showing that the animal is wounded to showing it as healthy and just 'roaming'? This throws me off all the time. And on one hand that's cool because it adds some degree of realism and challenge. Sometimes I don't know if there was a bug or if it's my lack of understanding the game. Like the time the tracks seemed to end...but there was a place where it changed direction abruptly and turned into a roaming tracks. Are these the tracks of the animal 'before I shot it'? I'm very confused and frustrated about this. Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend the beginner's guide by HooCairs.

The indicator on your huntermate will not show the general direction in which the animal is traveling, it will only show in which direction the animal was traveling when he left that particular clue, so while a footprint might give you the idea that he traveled north, he might have changed direction short after he left that clue, which happens a lot when an animal is trying to avoid an object.

On the other hand, deer often tend to travel in a pretty straight lines, so when the track changes direction, it's sometimes better to ignore it and follow the new direction only when you can't find any new clues ahead of you.
